BACKSTORY: One of my favorite movies by John Hughes. Released in 1984, it is the story of a young girl (Molly Ringwald) who turns sweet sixteen. What should be a joyous day for her starts out with sadness as her entire family forgets the milestone, focusing instead on the girl's sister (Blanche Baker) who is about to be wed. A classic 80s time capsule of the pitfalls and uncomfortable moments associated with coming of age.
