| BACKSTORY: Just a few blocks from Hollywood Boulevard is an excellent hiking trail called Runyon Canyon. Once the site of an estate named “The Pines,” it is known as the fabled estate of Errol Flynn; actually, he only stayed in the pool house briefly, but such is the stuff of legend and urban myth. The movie, “Breathless,” shot here in 1983, also perpetuated the Flynn story. The twisted metal in these photos is all that’s left of a sign that used to grace the hill. “HOLLYWOOD” wasn’t the only canyon that had a huge real estate sign; this one spelled “OUTPOST.” To read more about Outpost estates, click here. |
